Bhubaneswar, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed the BJP-led Odisha government for accelerating the state’s development, stating that the “double-engine government” has ushered in a new era of growth and progress. Addressing a public gathering at Rairangpur during the celebration of two years of the state government, Modi said Odisha is advancing rapidly under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The Prime Minister said welfare programmes aimed at the poor are transforming lives across the state, while Odisha is emerging as a major hub for investment, industrial development and economic activity. He noted that the government is creating new employment opportunities and strengthening the state’s economic foundation.
Highlighting the Centre’s vision of “Purvodaya” or the Rise of Eastern India, Modi said the development of eastern states is essential for the overall growth of the country. He remarked that regions once considered underdeveloped are now becoming engines of economic progress and contributing significantly to India’s development journey.
The Prime Minister emphasized Odisha’s immense potential, citing its long coastline, rich mineral resources, strong agricultural base and talented youth population. He said coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state government are helping unlock these strengths through large-scale infrastructure and industrial investments.
Modi pointed to record investments in railway infrastructure, expansion of road networks, development of economic corridors and modernization of ports. He also highlighted growing investments in sectors such as energy, semiconductors, green energy and advanced manufacturing.
During the programme, the Prime Minister unveiled and launched development projects worth nearly ₹47,600 crore. He said the initiatives would bring substantial benefits in key sectors including electricity, roads, railways, healthcare and education, improving the quality of life for millions of people.
Congratulating the people of Odisha, Modi expressed confidence that the state would play a leading role in India’s future growth story and emerge as a major contributor to the vision of a developed nation.
