Bhubaneswar, June 20: A shocking murder in Bhubaneswar’s Gadakana area on Saturday has sent shockwaves through the local community after a man was allegedly hacked to death with a sharp weapon. Police suspect the crime may have been triggered by a long-standing dispute linked to an alleged extramarital affair.
The incident took place at Sri Sai Vihar under the jurisdiction of Chandrasekharpur Police Station. According to preliminary investigations, tensions had reportedly been brewing between the deceased and the accused for some time. Police sources said the victim was suspected of having an illicit relationship with the accused’s wife, leading to frequent disputes and animosity between the two men.
The situation allegedly turned violent on Saturday morning when the accused confronted the victim and attacked him with a cleaver. The victim sustained grievous injuries during the assault and collapsed on the spot. Local residents who learned about the incident immediately rushed to help and shifted the injured man to a nearby hospital for treatment.
However, doctors declared him dead on arrival due to the severity of his injuries. The brutal nature of the attack created panic in the locality and drew a large crowd to the scene.
Upon receiving information, police personnel reached the area and launched an investigation. The accused was subsequently arrested, and the weapon allegedly used in the crime was seized. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police officials said they are examining all aspects of the case, including the exact motive behind the murder and whether any other individuals were involved. The incident has sparked concern among residents, who expressed shock over the violent killing in a residential neighbourhood. Further investigation is underway.
