Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: Odisha is likely to experience an increase in rainfall activity from September 9 as a weather system develops over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
According to the latest forecast, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently prevailing over the westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh, extending up to about 7.6 km above mean sea level.
Under the influence of this circulation, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form around September 11 over the westcentral and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas along the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.
The developing system is expected to influence weather conditions across Odisha over the coming days. The IMD has forecast a gradual increase in rainfall from September 9, with heavy rainfall likely around September 10 and September 12.
The rainfall pattern is expected to initially intensify over the northern districts of Odisha. Subsequently, the system is likely to bring increased rainfall to coastal, central and southern parts of the State.
Weather conditions are expected to remain active as the low-pressure system progresses inland. According to the IMD forecast, the system is likely to move inland by around September 14. Following its movement, rainfall activity across Odisha is expected to gradually decrease.
The weather department has advised residents and local authorities to closely monitor updated forecasts and warnings, particularly in districts likely to receive heavy rainfall. Authorities may need to remain prepared for possible waterlogging and other rain-related disruptions during the period of enhanced rainfall activity.
