Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the development of a new depression over the Bay of Bengal around October 31, raising the possibility of another weather system moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast in the coming days.
According to the weather agency, a low-pressure area formed over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining regions was observed at 11:30 am on Thursday. The system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal, adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea by October 31.
The IMD further stated that the system is likely to intensify subsequently and continue moving west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast over the following two days. Further developments will depend on the system’s movement and intensification.
Meanwhile, the depression that emerged as the remnant of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Arnab’ continued moving northwards over central Chhattisgarh and adjoining Odisha at a speed of approximately 23 kmph.
According to the IMD, the system was centred near latitude 20.2°N and longitude 81.7°E. It was located approximately 170 km west of Titlagarh and 270 km west-southwest of Sambalpur in Odisha. The system was also about 110 km south of Raipur and 120 km south-southeast of Durg in Chhattisgarh.
The weather agency said the depression was likely to continue moving northwards and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining northwest Odisha by Thursday evening.
