Bhubaneswar, May 13: In a shocking incident, a private engineering college student was allegedly gang-raped by her boyfriend and three of his friends at a private mess in the Kaimatia area under Info Valley police station limits in Bhubaneswar. Police on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of all four accused persons and said an investigation is currently underway.
The accused have been identified as Sipun Behera, Ranjan Behera, Shubhankar Padhi, and Ratikant. According to preliminary reports, the survivor was allegedly called to her boyfriend’s room at the private mess, where the incident reportedly took place.
Following the alleged assault, the student approached Info Valley police station and lodged a formal complaint against the accused. Acting swiftly on the basis of the complaint, police detained the four accused and later placed them under arrest after preliminary inquiry.
Police officials said the accused are being interrogated to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the role of each individual in the alleged crime. The Commissionerate Police have also launched a detailed investigation into the matter.
A scientific team and senior police officials visited the mess premises to collect evidence and examine the scene as part of the probe. Investigators are also expected to verify digital evidence and statements of witnesses connected to the case.
The incident has triggered concern over the safety of students and women in the city. Police have assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty in accordance with the law.
