Odisha CM Mohan Majhi leads groundbreaking for IMFA’s high-tech plant in Kalinga Nagar
Bhubaneswar, May 22: Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA), a company founded by the late Dr. Bansidhar Panda—widely regarded as a key architect of Odisha’s industrial growth—held a groundbreaking ceremony today for its new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Kalinga Nagar.
The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Majhi, led the ceremony, joined by key dignitaries including Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Industries Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Co-operation Pradeep Bal Samanta, Jajpur MP Rabindra Narayan Behera, MLAs Akash Das Nayak and Amar Nayak, and senior IMFA officials.
Over the past year, CM Majhi has made industrial development a cornerstone of his administration. Under his leadership, numerous commitments from the Make-in-Odisha Conclave have translated into tangible progress, with both Indian and international companies initiating project groundwork across the state. The push for industrial growth has already generated around 36,000 new jobs, reflecting the government’s vision of a self-reliant Odisha.
The upcoming IMFA plant, spread across 124.26 acres, will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 metric tonnes of ferro chrome. Phase 1 of the project is set to go live by Q1 of FY2026-27. Equipped with advanced technology, the facility will complement IMFA’s existing integrated operations at Choudwar and Therubali—boosting the company’s total capacity to 384,000 tonnes and further cementing its status as India’s premier producer of value-added ferro chrome.
“This project represents our unwavering commitment to Odisha’s progress,” said Subhrakant Panda, Managing Director of IMFA. “It not only strengthens the state's industrial profile but also propels our growth with a strong focus on sustainability.”
As part of its green strategy, IMFA has entered into a joint venture with JSW Green Energy to supply 110 MW of hybrid renewable power to the Kalinga Nagar facility. This initiative underscores IMFA’s dedication to sustainable operations and supports India’s national goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
