Odisha CM engages with Singapore leaders to promote investment
Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: The second day of the Odisha delegation’s visit to Singapore, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, focused on exploring Singapore’s advanced infrastructure and fostering strategic partnerships to accelerate Odisha’s industrial transformation.
The delegation engaged in key discussions around industrial growth and skill development, which are central to Odisha’s ongoing economic progress.
The day began with a visit to the Surbana Jurong Petrochemicals Complex, a global leader in petrochemical processing. This visit is significant for Odisha as the state, strategically located on India’s eastern seaboard, is emerging as a major petrochemical and chemicals hub in the Bay of Bengal region. By leveraging the expertise from Singapore’s petrochemical sector, Odisha aims to enhance its own Petroleum, Chemicals, and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) at Paradip.
Following the visit, the delegation held its first Government-to-Government (G2G) meeting with Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Commerce of Singapore.
Chief Minister Majhi highlighted Odisha’s maritime history and extended an invitation to Singaporean companies to explore investment opportunities in the state. The delegation also invited the Deputy Prime Minister to attend the “Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025.”
Additionally, the Chief Minister and Industries Minister met Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, to discuss the successful partnership with Singapore in establishing the World Skill Centre in Odisha. The delegation also proposed deeper collaborations in urban mobility, green shipping corridors, and the chemicals sector.
In a meeting with Sopnendu Mohanty, Chief Fintech Officer at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, discussions focused on innovations in fintech, particularly in relation to Odisha’s growing economy. The day concluded with a business-to-business discussion, reinforcing the ties between Odisha and Singaporean firms.
This visit marks a key milestone in Odisha’s strategic outreach ahead of the “Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025,” with the next two days set to involve crucial one-on-one meetings with investors and industry associations to explore further collaborations.
