Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Odisha between August 11 and 17, with weather conditions likely to intensify from August 13. While a Yellow ‘Be Aware’ warning has been issued for several districts during the initial days, five districts are expected to come under an Orange ‘Be Prepared’ warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
For August 11, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in 21 districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph are also likely at isolated places in these districts and in Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal, Koraput and Malkangiri.
The Yellow warning will continue on August 12, with heavy rain expected in 22 districts. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places across all 30 districts.
From August 13, rainfall activity is expected to increase. An Orange warning has been issued for Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul and Dhenkanal. Another 18 districts remain under a Yellow warning, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely across the state.
