Bhubaneswar, April 7: A young man was shot dead in a late-night firing incident in Jajpur, triggering panic and tension among local residents.
The incident took place near the Kalimegha area, where unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at the victim, identified as Soumya Ranjan Samal of Kuansarpur. He sustained critical bullet injuries and was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jajpur for treatment.
Due to the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced care. However, despite sustained medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment late last night.
According to preliminary reports, the attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting. The motive behind the crime and the identities of those involved remain unclear at this stage, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. A scientific team visited the spot on Tuesday morning and conducted a thorough forensic examination to gather crucial evidence.
