Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: In a landmark medical achievement, doctors at SUM Ultimate Medicare have successfully prevented the amputation of a patient’s leg by performing Odisha’s first Below-Knee Advanced Endovascular Atherectomy using the latest Jetstream technology. The breakthrough minimally invasive procedure marks a major advancement in vascular care in the state.
The complex intervention was carried out by Dr. Sambit Kumar Pattanayak, Consultant in Interventional Radiology. The patient was suffering from severe arterial blockages in the lower limb, a life-threatening condition that can lead to non-healing ulcers, gangrene, and eventual limb loss if untreated.
Dr. Pattanayak explained that patients with critical limb ischemia often have limited treatment options, particularly when blockages occur in smaller arteries below the knee. With advanced atherectomy technology, doctors can now remove plaque and clots, restore blood circulation without open surgery, and significantly reduce amputation risk.
Brig. (Dr.) Biraj Mohan Mishra said the success ushers in a new era of limb-saving treatment in Odisha. SOA Founder President Manojranjan Nayak and CEO Swetapadma Dash hailed the milestone, reaffirming their commitment to advanced, patient-centric healthcare innovations.
