Bhubaneswar, June 27: Odisha is likely to witness another spell of widespread rainfall next week as a low-pressure area is expected to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha coast, on July 2, according to the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of SOA Deemed to be University.
In its latest weather bulletin issued on Saturday, the CEC said the system is likely to intensify gradually into a depression on July 3 and further strengthen into a deep depression by July 4. Under its influence, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across the state from July 1 to July 5.
The bulletin stated that coastal districts of Odisha are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 2 and 3 as the weather system develops over the Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, the rain belt is expected to shift inland, bringing heavy to very heavy showers to several interior districts between July 3 and July 5.
Before the formation of the low-pressure system, light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue across different parts of the state from June 27 to July 1.
Weather experts have advised residents, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain alert and follow updates issued by authorities as the weather system evolves over the coming days.
