Bhubaneswar, June 23: Prompt intervention and expert medical care by veterinarians at the Veterinary Clinical Complex of the Institute of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (IVSAH), under SOA Deemed to be University, helped save the life of a calf that was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident on Raja Sankranti.
The incident occurred when the calf, which was resting by the roadside, was struck by a speeding car. The vehicle reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the injured animal in severe pain. The calf continued to cry out for help until concerned local residents came to its rescue.
Realising the seriousness of the situation, residents contacted the Veterinary Clinical Complex, which promptly dispatched an ambulance to the spot. The calf was transported to the facility, where a team of veterinarians provided immediate treatment and round-the-clock care.
Prof. Niranjan Sahu, Medical Superintendent of the Veterinary Clinical Complex, who supervised the treatment, said the animal responded well to medical attention and gradually began recovering. The calf later started accepting food and water, indicating significant improvement in its condition.
Prof. Sahu noted that the centre regularly treats stray animals injured in road accidents, many of which are victims of reckless driving. He emphasized the need for greater road safety awareness and responsible driving to prevent such incidents and protect vulnerable animals on city roads.
