Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: The Shree Jagannath Darshan Yojana was launched in Chatrapur of Ganjam district, enabling 74 senior citizens to undertake darshan of Lord Jagannath at Puri Shrimandir. The initiative seeks to ensure smooth and accessible pilgrimage opportunities for elderly and economically weaker devotees.
The scheme was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Nabarangpur, while Commerce & Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena flagged off the pilgrimage buses from Chhatrapur Mini Stadium. He emphasized the State Government’s commitment to public welfare, describing Lord Jagannath as the spiritual nucleus of Odia identity and consciousness.
Under the programme, beneficiaries will receive free travel to Puri, accommodation at Brundabati Nivas, Mahaprasad, and meals. The scheme targets senior citizens aged 60–75 years and widows up to 75 years. Over the next four years, more than 1.2 lakh elderly devotees are expected to benefit.
Dignitaries including Purna Chandra Sethi, Krishna Chandra Nayak, and Collector V. Keerthi Vasan attended the launch. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative.
