Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: The Registration Certificate (RC) of vehicles in Odisha may be cancelled if they do not possess valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) and fitness documents, Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena informed on Thursday.
Issuing a stern warning, the Minister said enforcement of PUCC norms will be made more stringent across the state. He urged all vehicle owners and operators to ensure that their vehicles carry valid PUCC and fitness certificates to avoid strict action from the Transport Department.
Jena stated that vehicles operating without these mandatory documents may face cancellation of their Registration Certificates. He further cautioned that habitual violators and those repeatedly flouting transport regulations could also lose their RCs.
The Minister reiterated that enforcement drives will be intensified in the coming days. Special inspection campaigns will focus on school buses to ensure compliance with safety and fitness standards, keeping student safety a top priority.
Highlighting reforms, Jena said vehicle fitness certification will now be conducted through an Automated Testing System (ATS). Construction of ATS centres is currently underway in several districts. Although earlier deadlines could not be met in five districts, temporary manual arrangements have been made, with a fresh target set to operationalise ATS centres soon.
