Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: Devotees visiting the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri are likely to experience a more organised darshan arrangement before the upcoming New Year, with the Odisha Government planning to introduce the much-awaited Dhadi Darshan (queue-based darshan) system.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Friday that the new system is expected to be rolled out after the holy month of Kartik and before the New Year. He said preparations for its implementation have reached the final stage.
Under the proposed arrangement, eight specially designed ramps will be installed to facilitate the simultaneous movement of devotees for darshan. The new facility is expected to accommodate approximately 10,000 devotees every hour, significantly streamlining the movement of visitors inside the temple premises.
The queue complex will be established between the Garuda Stambha and Bahara Katha, the outer wooden barricade of the temple. The arrangement is aimed at regulating the flow of devotees and ensuring a systematic darshan experience, particularly during periods of heavy footfall.
Explaining the technical mechanism, the Minister said the ramps would function like a collapsible bridge system. They will remain open during darshan hours and be closed after the completion of daily rituals. This mechanism is expected to facilitate better management of the temple space.
The system has been designed with technical assistance from IIT Bhubaneswar.
Harichandan further stated that the Chhatisha Nijog and the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee would soon review the proposed arrangements. The final rollout will take place after receiving their approval.
The initiative is expected to improve crowd management and provide devotees with a smoother and more convenient darshan experience.
