Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: Janaki Ranjan Mallik, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Kakhadi Circle under Sadar Tahasil in Cuttack district, was arrested on Thursday by Odisha Vigilance officials for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a landowner.
According to Vigilance sources, the bribe was sought in exchange for submitting a favourable report in a land mutation case and issuing the Record of Rights (RoR/Patta) in the complainant’s favour. The landowner had applied online for mutation of land, following which Mallik fixed the hearing date for January 27, 2026. However, he allegedly asked the applicant to meet him earlier on January 20, 2026, during which he demanded illegal gratification to process the case.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the landowner approached the Vigilance department and lodged a complaint. Acting on the complaint, Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Mallik red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. The entire tainted cash was recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the arrest, Vigilance teams launched searches at three locations linked to the accused from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle. A case has been registered against Mallik under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
