Bhubaneswar, June 16: In a major relief for students appearing for the NEET (UG) Examination 2026, the Odisha government has announced free transportation facilities across the state on June 21. The initiative has been taken following the decision of the Chief Minister and under the direction of the Commerce and Transport Department to ensure hassle-free travel for candidates on the examination day.
The free transportation service will be jointly operated by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) and Capital Region Urban Transport. Under the arrangement, direct bus services will be available from major railway stations and bus terminals to examination centres through OSRTC buses, Mukhyamantri Bus Seva (MBS) and AMA Bus services.
Candidates appearing at 134 examination centres across Odisha can avail themselves of the facility by simply producing their valid NEET (UG) admit card while travelling in government-operated buses and vehicles deployed by educational institutions for the purpose.
The transport service will operate in two phases. The first phase will help students reach their examination centres before the commencement of the test, while the second phase will ensure their safe return after the examination. Authorities have stated that buses will continue operating until all candidates reach their destinations.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Transport Commissioner recently held a review meeting with Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) across the state. Detailed discussions were held regarding route planning, coordination and monitoring of services at the district level.
Keeping in view the prevailing summer conditions, arrangements for drinking water and other essential facilities will also be made for candidates. The Commerce and Transport Department has requested all district collectors to provide necessary support and coordination.
Officials have also directed RTOs to widely publicise the free transport facility and helpline numbers through social media and other communication platforms so that candidates can easily access information and assistance whenever required.
