Bhubaneswar, Feb 26: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi, marking a significant step toward strengthening the state’s administrative presence in the national capital. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the upcoming building will embody Odisha’s rich heritage, art, and cultural identity.
The Chief Minister noted that the existing Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi is old and lacks adequate space and modern amenities. The proposed structure will include three basements, a ground floor, and six additional floors. It will house 45 fully equipped suites to accommodate visitors. The first floor will feature an exhibition area to promote Odisha’s culture and achievements, while the second floor will have a 70-seat conference hall for official meetings and events.
“The tender process has been completed, and construction will begin soon,” the CM said, adding that the project is estimated to cost Rs 93.27 crore.
Odisha Bhawans are also planned in Ayodhya, Bengaluru, and Surat, while a new facility is proposed in Mumbai. Additionally, a public shelter Bhawan near Bhubaneswar Master Canteen Square will offer affordable short-term accommodation for visitors.
