Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced an ex gratia of ₹4 lakh each for the families of two persons who lost their lives after a massive display hoarding collapsed near Patrapada–Aiginia Durga Mandap in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening amid strong gusty winds.
The deceased have been identified as Tuna Gouda and Sachidanand Pradhan. Several others were injured in the sudden mishap and were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister’s Office expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families. The financial assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the next of kin of the deceased.
According to reports, the giant hoarding came crashing down on a busy stretch, trapping pedestrians and passersby underneath and triggering panic in the area. The impact of the collapse also caused damage to a few nearby shops.
Police and fire services personnel promptly reached the scene and launched a rescue operation. Officials from Bharatpur police station later recovered the bodies and sent them to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for post-mortem examination.
