Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: A video showing a person using a mobile phone at Anand Bazaar inside the Jagannath Temple in Puri has gone viral, triggering serious concerns over temple security. The incident has sparked questions about how the individual managed to enter the highly secured premises with a mobile device, despite strict advisories and multiple security checkpoints prohibiting electronic gadgets.
In the viral clip, the person is seen talking on the phone for a prolonged period at Anand Bazaar, a highly sensitive area of the shrine. This is not an isolated case, as several similar incidents of photos and videos being captured inside the temple have surfaced on social media in recent months.
In October last year, a mobile phone was recovered from the temple premises, leading to the detention of a temple gumasta who was allegedly clicking pictures. He was later interrogated at the Singhadwar police station. In another incident, two youths were caught taking photos using a hidden camera fitted in their spectacles and were immediately detained.
These repeated breaches have prompted the police administration to take serious note of the matter. Authorities are now planning stricter security measures and intensified checks to prevent future violations and ensure the sanctity of the temple is maintained.
