Bhubaneswar, May 25: Senior IPS officer Dayal Gangwar was transferred and posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Department by the Odisha government on Monday, even as the Crime Branch continues its investigation into the death of Balianta resident Soumya Ranjan Swain.
Gangwar’s transfer has drawn attention as allegations had recently been levelled against him by Soumya’s family following the youth’s death in an alleged mob violence incident.
Speaking to the media, Soumya’s father alleged that his son had faced harassment while working under Gangwar. He claimed Soumya had left the job around a month ago due to mental stress and humiliation.
According to the father, Soumya was allegedly asked to massage the senior officer for nearly two hours every morning and evening. He further alleged that Soumya was also made to massage Gangwar’s son and was asked to purchase protein supplements worth around Rs 12,000.
Meanwhile, Soumya’s mother Kabita Swain expressed disappointment over the pace of the investigation and said she had little hope of getting justice.
“I do not think any action will be taken against him because he has connections everywhere. I am a poor woman and have very limited means to fight for justice,” she said emotionally.
The Crime Branch is continuing its investigation into the case, while the allegations against the IPS officer have sparked widespread discussion and public concern.
