Bhubaneswar, April 7: The India Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow warnings for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and hail across several districts of Odisha from April 8 to April 11, 2026. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.
According to the IMD’s midday bulletin, on April 8, orange alerts have been issued for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, and Angul, where thunderstorms with lightning, winds of 50–60 kmph, and hail are likely. Heavy rainfall is also expected in districts such as Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal. Yellow warnings have been issued for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Deogarh, with winds reaching 40–50 kmph.
On April 9, orange warnings remain for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur, while several other districts, including Puri, Ganjam, and Sambalpur, are under yellow alert. Moderate thunderstorms are also expected in interior regions.
For April 10 and 11, yellow warnings continue across coastal and southern districts.The IMD has urged people to avoid open spaces during lightning and secure loose objects to minimise risks.
