Bhubaneswar, Mar 9: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four members of a family after a Bolero vehicle rammed into two motorcycles near Mehna village under the Godbhaga police limits in Bargarh district in the early hours of Monday. The heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.
According to reports, the victims were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony when the speeding Bolero allegedly crashed into the motorcycles they were travelling on. The deceased have been identified as Santosh Padhan (55), his wife Kahar Padhan (48), Santosh’s brother Dayasagar Padhan, and his minor grandson.
The family was travelling back to their native village, Jampali, under Binka police station limits after attending a wedding function in Khairpali village. The accident reportedly occurred in the wee hours when the Bolero hit the motorcycles with great force, causing fatal injuries to four of the passengers on the spot.
Two other grandchildren of the family sustained serious injuries in the crash. They were immediately rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the Bolero driver, who fled the scene after the accident.
