Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: The cold wave continues to sweep across Odisha, with Jharsuguda emerging as the coldest place in the state on Thursday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the industrial town recorded a minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am, sending shivers through residents.
Several other parts of the state also experienced a significant dip in temperatures. Keonjhar recorded a minimum of 9.4 degrees Celsius, while Chandbali registered 12.2 degrees Celsius. The state capital Bhubaneswar and coastal town Paradip both reported identical minimum temperatures of 12.4 degrees Celsius in the early morning hours.
Weather officials noted a sharp decline in Jharsuguda’s temperature over the past few days. On January 11, the town had recorded a minimum temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius, which has now plummeted to 6.8 degrees, breaking previous seasonal records.
The regional meteorological centre has advised residents to take necessary precautions and keep themselves warm, especially during night and early morning hours. The IMD has predicted that cold wave conditions are likely to persist across Odisha for the next few days, with temperatures expected to remain low in most districts.
