Bhubaneswar, May 28: In a major breakthrough in the sensational murder case reported from the Bhingarpur-Kaja area under Balianta police limits, the CID Crime Branch of Odisha Police has arrested the prime accused, Ashok Jena alias Geda. The murder had taken place on May 7, 2026, triggering widespread public attention and concern across the state.
According to an official press release issued by the Crime Branch, the accused, Ashok Jena (45), son of Alekh Chandra Jena and a resident of Gangeswargada under Cuttack Sadar police station, was apprehended on Thursday morning from Hotel Regal Stay located in Patia area of Bhubaneswar.
Police officials stated that the arrest was made after investigators gathered substantial evidence linking him to the crime during an intensive probe. Initially, the case was registered at Balianta police station as Case No. 221/2026 before being transferred to the CID Crime Branch, where it was re-registered as Case No. 06/2026 for detailed investigation.
The accused has been booked under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Investigators revealed that Ashok Jena played a direct role in the assault that led to the victim’s death.
With this latest development, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to 17. The Crime Branch has informed that the investigation is continuing on a priority basis and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining persons involved in the incident.
The arrest of the prime accused is being viewed as a crucial development in the high-profile case, which had shocked people across Odisha and intensified demands for swift action against those responsible.
