Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: A disturbing incident has shaken Bhubaneswar, where two ambulance drivers have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a woman who had sought help while returning from a hospital. The case has raised serious concerns about public safety and misuse of emergency services.
According to reports, the victim, a resident of West Bengal, had come to the city to escort a relative for treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. After completing her visit, she was waiting for an auto-rickshaw to reach the railway station when the accused approached her.
The two men, employed with a private ambulance service, allegedly offered her a lift, assuring they would drop her safely at the station. However, instead of taking her to her destination, they reportedly drove her to a secluded forested area under Tamando police limits, where the crime was committed.
Following the survivor’s complaint, police initiated a swift investigation and arrested the accused, identified as Bichitra Sahu and Narayan Swain from Nayagarh district. Both are currently in custody.
The Bhubaneswar DCP confirmed the arrests and stated that further investigation is underway to gather evidence and ensure strict legal action. Authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to deliver justice in the case.
