Bhubaneswar, Jan 31: The Odisha Cabinet on Saturday approved the Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of the Chairman and Members) Rules, 2026, paving the way for the formal appointment of the Commission’s leadership.
The newly approved rules provide a clear framework for the recruitment process, tenure, eligibility criteria and service conditions of the Chairman and Members of the Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission (OUSSSC). The Commission plays a crucial role in conducting recruitment examinations for various uniformed services in the state.
The OUSSSC was constituted earlier under the Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission Rules, 2025, which were notified by the General Administration & Public Grievance Department on December 5, 2025. The Commission has been entrusted with the responsibility of selecting officers and personnel of different ranks for the Odisha Police and other uniformed services under departments such as Home, Excise, Forest, Environment & Climate Change, and Commerce & Transport.
As per the 2025 Rules, the Commission is to consist of a Chairman and two Members appointed by the State Government. However, a separate set of rules was required to define their appointment and service conditions.
With the Cabinet’s approval of the 2026 Rules, the regulatory framework is now complete, enabling the Commission to function effectively. Officials said the move will enhance transparency, administrative efficiency and speed up recruitment across uniformed services in Odisha.
