Bhubaneswar, Sep 5: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Teachers’ Day urged students to use social media responsibly, avoid falling prey to propaganda and remain focused on their studies, skills and career goals.
Interacting with students at the Teachers’ Day ceremony held at Secondary Board High School in Kataka on Saturday, Majhi advised them to study with determination and dedication and make education the foundation for a successful career.
The Chief Minister said students have a primary responsibility to acquire knowledge and skills and contribute to their own development as well as the progress of the country. He urged them to stay away from activities and distractions that could adversely affect their career-building efforts.
Highlighting the importance of the teacher-student relationship, Majhi said it should be more friendly and supportive in the present era. He encouraged students to maintain close communication with their teachers and seek the blessings and guidance of both parents and teachers to achieve success.
Majhi said education was not merely about imparting academic knowledge but was a comprehensive process of shaping responsible and capable human beings. He praised teachers for shouldering this important responsibility and contributing to the development of society.
Paying tribute to former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, the Chief Minister highlighted the enduring significance of the Guru-Shishya tradition in Indian culture.
Citing examples of Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Chandragupta Maurya and Swami Vivekananda, Majhi said the guidance of teachers had played a decisive role in shaping their lives. He also recalled former President and renowned scientist Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, popularly known as the ‘Missile Man’, who considered it an honour to identify himself as a teacher despite holding the country’s highest constitutional office.
