Bhubaneswar, Sep 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorm and lightning activity across several districts of Odisha for the next five days, forecasting gusty winds and urging people to remain alert during adverse weather conditions.
For September 3, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are very likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
The weather office has forecast similar conditions from September 4 to September 7, with the same eight districts under the Yellow Warning. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at one or two places during this period.
The IMD has advised residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant and regularly monitor weather updates issued by the authorities. People have been urged to take necessary precautions whenever thunderstorms and lightning occur.
Residents are advised to avoid open spaces, isolated trees, water bodies and other exposed locations during lightning activity. People should preferably remain indoors and unplug electrical appliances where necessary during severe thunderstorms.
The warning comes amid continued unsettled weather conditions in parts of Odisha. Intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to occur in several areas over the coming days.
District administrations and concerned authorities have also been advised to remain prepared to respond to any weather-related incidents. The IMD has asked the public to follow official advisories and exercise caution until the weather conditions improve.
