Omfed ghee to be used in all major temples in Odisha, says Minister
Bhubaneswar, Nov 9: The Odisha government has announced that only Omfed ghee will be used in major temples across the state to preserve the sanctity of these religious sites. This decision was shared by Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik on Saturday.
The move follows concerns over the use of adulterated ghee in various temples. “Omfed ghee is already being used at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, and it will now be implemented in other significant temples as well,” Mallik told reporters. He further added that district collectors have been instructed to ensure that only Omfed ghee is used in all major temples.
Recognizing the increasing demand for Omfed products, particularly in rural areas, the Minister also revealed that the state plans to establish Omfed stalls in villages to meet local needs. "We are prioritizing milk production in Odisha, and these stalls will cater to the rising demand," he added.
Additionally, Mallik emphasized the state's focus on boosting milk production. The government plans to implement the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana across eight points in every block, aiming to enhance milk production and improve small cattle farming. The scheme will include subsidies and restructuring initiatives for Omfed to support local milk farmers.
