Odisha Yatri platform records over 57% female ridership, reflecting growing trust in public transport

Bhubaneswar, Aug 16: Odisha’s public transport system has received a strong endorsement from women users, with fresh data showing that 57.44% of passengers on the Odisha Yatri platform between October 2024 and July 2025 were women. Out of 2.57 lakh commuters, more than 1.48 lakh were female users, highlighting improved safety, accessibility, and inclusivity in the state’s mobility network.

Launched as a pilot in October 2024 and formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in January 2025, the app has consistently seen a higher share of women riders. Usage peaked in January 2025 with 61.63% female ridership, while the latest data for July still reflects a majority at 55.38%.

Officials attribute this success to key features such as verified drivers, real-time tracking, robust grievance redressal, and integration with enforcement agencies, which together ensure safer and more accountable commuting.

“The data speaks for itself — women are leading the adoption of Odisha Yatri,” said Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, noting the government’s focus on gender-responsive transport.

Looking ahead, Odisha Yatri plans to expand into more cities and add ambulance and boating services, reinforcing its role as a people-centric mobility platform.
