Odisha Law Minister updates on Ratna Bhandar inspection and repairs
Bhubaneswar, July 22: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is set to begin its inspection of the Ratna Bhandar at Puri Srimandir within the next few days, according to Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan.
Speaking to reporters, Harichandan mentioned that the decision on whether to use laser scanning during the inspection will be made based on the findings of the ASI. Currently, all items and valuables from Ratna Bhandar have been moved to a temporary strong room for safekeeping.
Harichandan explained that the inspection will help identify any structural issues within Ratna Bhandar. Following this, the Odisha government will review and approve the ASI's requested timeline for necessary repairs.
Ratna Bhandar, the repository of Lord Jagannath’s treasures, was last accessed on July 14 after a 46-year period. The valuables were then transferred to the temporary strong room on July 18. The entire process is being overseen by a committee appointed by the Odisha Government, with Justice Biswanath Rath serving as its chairman.
