Odisha braces for rising temperatures after days of rain; IMD issues yellow warning

Bhubaneswar, May 31: After being pounded by heavy rainfall over the past few days due to a low-pressure system, Odisha is now likely to witness a shift in weather conditions, with hotter days expected starting Sunday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be no major change in daytime temperatures in the next 24 hours. However, a gradual rise of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius is expected over the next 5 to 6 days across the state.

The low-pressure area, which had moved towards northeastern Assam and surrounding regions, has now become less marked. Despite this, the associated cyclonic circulation still persists and extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level, influencing weather patterns in Odisha.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for multiple districts over the next two days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, along with heavy rainfall, are likely in districts including Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.

Lighter thunderstorms and winds up to 30–40 kmph may also occur in several other districts across coastal, central, and western Odisha during this period.
