Night temperatures in Odisha to rise by 2–4°C; IMD predicts dry spell after intense cold wave
Bhubaneswar, May 29: After several days of biting cold, Odisha is likely to witness a gradual increase in nighttime temperatures, offering much-needed relief to residents across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature is expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next four days as cold conditions begin to ease. The regional weather office has forecast a predominantly dry spell, with no chances of rainfall in the next six days, indicating that the recent cold wave may soon come to an end.
On Thursday, several districts experienced severe cold, with Jharsuguda recording a chilling 5.4°C. G Udayagiri also reported an equally low 5.4°C, marking some of the lowest temperatures of the season. Other hill towns such as Phulbani and Daringbadi registered 8.5°C, reaffirming the intensity of the cold spell. Meanwhile, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded relatively higher minimum temperatures at 13.2°C and 14.3°C, respectively.
Despite the expected rise in temperatures, the IMD has issued a dense fog warning for Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Kalahandi districts, particularly for Saturday morning and night. Officials have advised commuters to exercise caution during early hours due to reduced visibility.
