Indian archers advance to mixed team quarterfinals after defeating Indonesia

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: Indian archers Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara advanced to the quarterfinals of the mixed team event after defeating Indonesia's Diananda Choirunisa and Arif Pangestu 5-1 (37-36, 38-38, 38-37) in the round of 16 on Friday.

The Indian pair secured their spot in the quarterfinals at Invalides, where they will face Spain for a place in the semifinals. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:45 pm IST.

Ankita and Dhiraj started strong, winning the first set 37-36. Although the Indonesians equalized in the second set, the Indian duo clinched the third set to seal their victory.

In other events, India's men's individual archery campaign ended with four-time Olympian Tarundeep Rai exiting in the opening round and Dhiraj narrowly losing in the second round. Both the men’s and women’s teams were unable to progress beyond the quarterfinals.

In the women’s individual event, seasoned archers Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur have advanced to the pre-quarterfinals, while Ankita was eliminated in the first round.
