IMD issues yellow warning for Odisha; heavy rainfall predicted till August 25
Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted spells of heavy rainfall across scattered regions of Odisha that will continue until August 25, urging residents to remain alert.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, districts including Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bargarh are likely to receive heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms today. A yellow warning has been issued for these districts, cautioning of possible traffic disruptions, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and minor damage to crops due to intense rainfall.
On August 22, the same districts—Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh—are expected to witness continued heavy downpour. The IMD has also forecast that parts of North and Western Odisha will receive significant rainfall on August 23 and 24, raising the possibility of local flooding.
Additionally, a yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued for 20 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, and others.
Meanwhile, rainfall activity has already been recorded in several regions. Dhenkanal received 27.4 mm, followed by Jagatsinghpur with 21.1 mm, Paralakhemundi with 15.2 mm, and Talcher with 13.8 mm.
