AI-powered cameras to strengthen security in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: The security infrastructure in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack is set to receive a major boost with the installation of more AI-powered surveillance cameras. The initiative, aimed at enhancing public safety and crime prevention, was announced by Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh on Monday.

Currently, around 1,000 CCTV cameras are operational at strategic locations in the Twin Cities. However, Commissioner Singh emphasized that this number is insufficient given the growing population and evolving security challenges. To address this gap, the police have recommended that the state government deploy additional cameras with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.

“These AI-enabled cameras will not only monitor activities but also help in criminal identification and advanced data analytics. This will significantly improve our crime prevention and detection efforts, making law enforcement more efficient and proactive,” Singh stated.

He also highlighted recent successful operations where the police recovered stolen goods and apprehended suspects, thanks to existing surveillance systems.

Additionally, the police have urged apartment owners and business establishments to install private CCTV cameras and hire security personnel for enhanced safety. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of making Bhubaneswar and Cuttack safer through improved technology-driven policing.
