Bhubaneswar, June 22: Students, faculty members, and staff of the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University enthusiastically participated in a special yoga session at the university stadium on Sunday to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga. The event witnessed large-scale participation as attendees performed various yogasanas and pranayama exercises aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, Principal Advisor (Health Sciences) at SOA and a renowned neurosurgeon, highlighted the growing health concerns associated with the changing lifestyles of young people. He emphasized that regular practice of yoga can play a vital role in improving physical fitness, mental health, emotional balance, social well-being, and spiritual growth. He encouraged students to make yoga a part of their daily routine to lead healthier and more productive lives.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” underscoring the importance of yoga in maintaining good health and vitality throughout life.
The programme was also attended by Prof. Nachieketa K. Sharma, Director of International Relations and University Outreach Program, Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das, Dean (Students’ Welfare), and Dr. Kamal Lochan Mahanta, NSS Program Coordinator of the university.
Yoga Teacher M. Akhil Chandra Rana, along with a team of trained instructors, guided participants through a series of yoga postures and breathing techniques. Several faculty members, including Dr. Saroj Kumar Mohanty, Dr. Nitish Kumar Jena, Dr. Manas Kumar Patel, Dr. Bhimasen Bhol, Dr. Kanaklata Ojha, and Ms. Padmaja Patel, were also present on the occasion. The event reinforced the significance of yoga in fostering a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
