Bhubaneswar, May 11: Reaffirming its commitment to inclusive legal outreach and social justice, the Legal Aid Clinic of SOA National Institute of Law (SNIL), the faculty of legal studies of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University, recently organised a two-day Legal Awareness Camp for members of the transgender community in Bhubaneswar.
Around 100 members of the transgender community participated in the programme, which was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) S.A.K. Azad, Dean of SNIL. Nearly 30 student volunteers and members of the Legal Aid Society actively took part in the initiative.
The first phase of the camp was held at Damana on April 26 in collaboration with Sakhi Foundation. During the programme, volunteers interacted directly with members of the transgender community to understand the challenges they face in daily life while also spreading awareness about legal rights, government welfare schemes, and constitutional protections available to them.
Sweety Sahu, President of SAKHi, shared her inspiring journey and highlighted issues related to resilience, social acceptance, and empowerment.
On the second day, the camp was organised at Sundarpada under the supervision of Meera Parida, Founder of SAKHA. Participants were sensitised about legal rights with special emphasis on equality, dignity, and social inclusion.
The organisers said the programme significantly enhanced legal awareness among participants and reinforced the message of equal rights and access to justice. The event was coordinated by faculty members Siddharth Das, Pramith Nandi, Himanshu Sekhar Muduli, and Anurag Das.
