Bhubaneswar, April 29: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a massive development package worth over ₹1,330 crore during his visit to Keonjhar district, announcing a series of projects aimed at transforming the district’s infrastructure, transport, and industrial landscape.
At a development conclave, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for 62 projects worth around ₹705 crore and inaugurated 24 completed projects valued at approximately ₹251 crore. He also announced a fresh package of nearly ₹375 crore for 101 new projects, taking the total number of initiatives to 187.
Highlighting the district’s mineral wealth, Majhi said Keonjhar has long contributed significantly to the state’s economy but had remained neglected in the past. He assured that development has accelerated under the current government and revealed that plans for a mega steel plant are in the final stages. Once operational, it is expected to boost industrial growth and employment.
A key highlight of the visit was the launch of 25 modern e-buses and inauguration of the ‘Ama Bus’ Depot built at a cost of ₹17 crore. The affordable service, with fares starting at ₹5, is expected to cut carbon emissions by up to 390 tonnes annually.
The initiative also promotes women empowerment, with women employed as bus guides and drivers, strengthening the state’s ‘Mahila Shakti’ mission.
