Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations across Odisha are likely to proceed without major weather disruptions as the low-pressure system expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal has weakened considerably, easing concerns over heavy rainfall during the festive period.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of the state may experience intermittent rainfall over the next few days as the southwest monsoon gradually withdraws. However, the overall weather outlook remains favourable for pandal visits, festive gatherings and other celebrations.
The weather office said the weakening of the anticipated low-pressure system has reduced the immediate possibility of widespread heavy downpour. While light to moderate showers may occur at isolated places, particularly in coastal districts, no major rainfall-related disruption is currently expected based on the forecast described.
The southwest monsoon is continuing its retreat from Odisha, with meteorological conditions becoming favourable for its withdrawal from the remaining parts of the country within the next two days, the IMD indicated.
The relatively favourable outlook is expected to bring relief to Puja organisers, vendors and visitors, many of whom are preparing for the final days of the celebrations. Outdoor events, pandal hopping and idol immersion programmes may therefore continue with fewer weather-related concerns, although local conditions could vary.
Despite the improved forecast, the IMD has advised residents, particularly those living in coastal areas, to remain alert to sudden changes in weather. People have been urged to follow official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions if rain or thunderstorms develop.
With no significant weather system expected to bring widespread heavy rainfall, Odisha is likely to experience largely favourable conditions for Dussehra celebrations. However, residents and organisers are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts before making outdoor arrangements.
