Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: Coastal Odisha is witnessing unusually high temperatures for the month of October, with the mercury rising further at several locations on Tuesday compared to the corresponding period on Monday.
According to temperature data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), readings recorded at 11.30 am showed a noticeable upward trend across most coastal stations. Puri recorded 35.2°C on Tuesday, compared with 34.2°C at the same time on Monday, marking a rise of 1°C.
Bhubaneswar also experienced a significant increase, with the temperature climbing to 34.4°C from 33.6°C on Monday. Chandabali recorded 34.2°C on Tuesday against 33.8°C the previous day.
Gopalpur witnessed a rise of 1°C, with the temperature increasing from 33.0°C to 34.0°C. Paradeep also recorded a marginal increase, with the mercury reaching 33.8°C on Tuesday compared with 33.4°C on Monday. Baleshwar, meanwhile, remained unchanged at 34.2°C on both days.
The above-normal temperatures have resulted in hot and humid conditions across several coastal and central districts, even as October normally brings a gradual decline in daytime temperatures following the southwest monsoon.
The IMD has noted that the beginning of October is proving warmer than normal over coastal and central Odisha. Several locations have recorded temperatures among the highest observed for the month, indicating an unusual persistence of heat during the period.
The combination of high temperatures and coastal humidity may make conditions particularly uncomfortable during the afternoon. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during peak daytime hours and stay adequately hydrated.
Weather officials are continuing to monitor the situation as temperatures remain elevated across several parts of the state.
