Bhubaneswar, July 22: Odisha reported a fresh COVID-19 case on Wednesday after a woman from Berhampur tested positive for the coronavirus. Health authorities, however, have assured the public that there is no reason for panic, as the patient is in stable condition and is receiving treatment under close medical supervision at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur.
The woman has been admitted to the hospital’s dedicated isolation ward, where doctors are continuously monitoring her health. Hospital authorities said she is clinically stable and responding well to treatment.
Confirming the development, MKCG Medical College Superintendent Prof. Sudeepa Das said the patient was admitted immediately after testing positive and all standard COVID-19 protocols have been put in place.
“One COVID-19-positive patient has been admitted and kept in isolation. Her condition is stable, and she is under observation,” Prof. Das told mediapersons.
He clarified that the currently circulating strain of the virus is similar to other seasonal respiratory infections and is not linked to any severe illness or highly dangerous variant. According to him, respiratory ailments such as cough, cold and viral fever are common during the monsoon season, and COVID-19 is now exhibiting symptoms similar to those of other routine viral infections.
Prof. Das advised the public to continue following basic preventive measures, including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining proper hand hygiene and consulting doctors if symptoms persist or worsen. He stressed that people should remain cautious without giving in to fear.
The medical superintendent also stated that there is no evidence of any new or highly virulent COVID-19 variant circulating in the state. He urged citizens to rely only on official health advisories, avoid spreading misinformation and cooperate with health authorities to ensure effective monitoring and management of isolated COVID-19 cases.
