Bhubaneswar, July 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Odisha from July 18 due to active monsoon conditions. The weather office has issued Orange and Yellow warnings for multiple districts, cautioning residents to remain vigilant as heavy showers are expected to continue over the next few days.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, an Orange Warning has been issued for Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir districts on July 18, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places. A Yellow Warning has also been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated locations.
The IMD said rainfall intensity is expected to reduce slightly on July 19, although heavy rain will continue in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Balangir, all of which remain under a Yellow Warning.
On July 20, heavy rainfall is likely to be confined mainly to Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, while Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj will continue under Yellow Warning on July 21, indicating the persistence of monsoon activity in northern Odisha.
In view of the forecast, the IMD has advised people to remain cautious and follow weather updates issued by the authorities. Residents have been urged to check traffic conditions before travelling, avoid waterlogged areas and stay away from weak or vulnerable structures during heavy rain. The department also warned that intense rainfall could lead to localized flooding, waterlogging and disruptions to normal life in several districts.
